For almost 35 years, TRIS (Transportation Research Information Services) has been an important component of transportation information dissemination. It is used throughout the world by researchers, engineers, planners, economists, environmentalists, designers, consultants, lawyers, teachers, students, and others interested in the many areas of transportation. The Transportation Research Information Services (TRIS) Database is the world's largest and most comprehensive bibliographic resource on transportation information. TRIS contains almost a half million records of published and ongoing research on all modes and disciplines in the field of transportation. Each year over 20,000 new records are added to TRIS.

TRIS Online is a collaborative effort between the Transportation Research Board, National Research Council, National Academies, and the U. S. Department of Transportation, to provide a public-domain, web-based version of the Transportation Research Information Services (TRIS) bibliographic database as a component of the National Transportation Library, and to enhance transportation research, safety, and operations by sharing knowledge and information.
