Dear Sir or Madam:
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will be hosting a two-day demonstration on Heat Straightening Repair of Damaged Steel Bridge Members, September 10-11, 2001. This is the second round and, thus, new and improved version of the demonstration course. It will be held at the Office of Materials and Research Auditorium at 15 Kennedy Drive, Forest Park, Georgia 30297 (see enclosed directions and map). The demonstration will begin promptly at 9:00 am on September 10 and end in the late afternoon on September 11.
Through the use of videos, slides, an interactive computer program, and a field demonstration, the following information will be presented:
- An overview of heat straightening.
- How to conduct various heating patterns.
- How to repair various damage types.
- How to inspect and supervise repairs.
- How to estimate the time required to straighten a bent section of steel.
- How to set up technical specifications.
- A case study of an actual repair using an interactive computer program.
The workshop agenda, flyer, and additional information are available through the FHWA web site at the following address: http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/bridge/heat.htm.
This workshop is open to design and maintenance engineers, steel fabricators, and maintenance foremen. Your participation and the participation of steel fabricators are welcomed.
