Dr. S. M. Johnson at the Zero Milestone.	In 1913, W. O. L. Westgard (front seat, left), the Great Pathfinder of the early 20th century, represented AAA in logging the Southern National Highway, portions of which became Lee Highway. Dr. S. M. Johnson (rear seat, in light suit) was the pilot for the section from El Paso, Texas, to Roswell, New Mexico. Photograph taken in Roswell.
	On September 14, 1925, Dr. S. M. Johnson (3rd from left), at the Zero Milestone with AAA officials as Major Bernard S. McMahan (on right), begins a trip to log Lee Highway for AAA strip maps and a Lee Highway tourist guide.	Major Bernard S. McMahan (center) arrives in San Diego on November 30 and is greeted by Mayor John L. Bacon (right) and Colonel Ed Fletcher, Vice President of Lee Highway Association.
