Description | The objective of this project is to increase driver safety on four horizontal curves on South Dakota's State Highway System. The curves—two on US14A near Deadwood and two on I-229 in Sioux Falls—experience crash rates two to four times higher than average. Application of HFST increases pavement friction by bonding high strength aggregate and binder, and is expected to in turn reduce accidents. The specific goal of this project is to decrease runoff-the-road crashes at the four curves by at least 25%. | |
