Description |
The Golden Road Project was adopted into the 2010 Bicycle & Pedestrian Capital Improvement Program (BPCIP). As part of the BPCIP, the project added numerous improvements along the roadway, such as curbs and gutters, drainage, bike lanes, landscape strips, street trees, street lighting, sidewalks, storm sewer and water quality improvements, and modifications and/or replacement of existing City waterlines The project was partly funded by a Gain Share Fund contribution and the remainder through the City's Transportation Utility Fee (TUF). Established in 2008 by the city council, this value capture technique includes a monthly fee paid by residents, businesses, government agencies, schools, and nonprofits in their utility bill to fund street maintenance and improvements like this project. Residential customers pay a flat fee while other customers have varying fees based on business type and square footage. Hillsboro expects their TUF will allow the city to clear its $7.5 million backlog of street maintenance projects by 2024. |
