TechBrief: Reducing Roughness in Rehabilitated Asphalt Concrete Pavements Research/Reference: useful for researchers doing further work in the pavement area as well as those developing improved testing and design procedures. Includes documents of historical value.

Primary Topic: Pavement Rehabilitation

Description: 4-page techncal brief that discusses the impact of different rehabilitation treatments to reduce flexible pavement roughness. Specific factors considered include overlay type, overlay thickness, and surface preparation of the existing AC surface prior to overlay. Key findings were that regardless of the roughness before overlay, the roughness after overlay fell into a narrow band, even thin overlays substantially reduced roughness, and the IRI after overlays with minimal and intensive surface preparation prior to overlay were close to each other.
