Bio for Walter Weart
Prior to joining FHWA, Wally was a Founder and Principal with WLG, Inc. a transportation consulting firm. Wally has more than 35 years of logistics experience, holding management positions with both manufacturers and transportation firms. He was National Sales Manager for the Nation's fourth largest refrigerated motor carrier and Vice President, Sales for nationally known consumer goods transportation firm as well as Director of Commerce for the Great Western Railroad. Prior to working for carriers, Wally spent 12 years as a senior level distribution manager for Continental Can Company and worked for Rand McNally & Co. as part of the team which developed the first automated mileage and freight rate management systems.
As a journalist, Wally has been Chicago Bureau Chief for Traffic World magazine and editor for Distribution Magazine where he also wrote features and monthly columns on a wide range of topics. In addition, Wally completed Transportation 5th Edition in 1998 which is one the most widely used college level transportation textbooks. He has just completed Motor Carrier Operations, 2nd edition for the Institute of Logistical Management. More than 200 articles have appeared under his byline in magazines including Traffic World, Inbound Logistics and Progressive Railroading.
Wally has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Elmhurst College and is a candidate for a Masters in Business Administration. Mr. Weart has taught at three community colleges in the Midwest and at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO in the marketing department in the Monfort College of Business Administration. He has also conducted numerous seminars covering a wide range of transportation issues as well as developing and teaching a course on rail management for the University of Wisconsin's Management Institute.
