Interstate Route H-3 was designed to preserve the fragile environment through which it passes. The curvilinear alignment crosses extremely rugged terrain and passes through the Koolau Mountains via the State's longest highway tunnels. Top-down construction of the balanced cantilever segmental bridge minimized impact to the vegetation below. In addition to providing an essential transportation link, H-3 opens up spectacular views of the Koolau Mountains.
