Hayward Interstate 90 Safety Rest Area

Preservation of existing land forms and vegetation was a critical factor in the development of this site. The rest area building, picnic shelters, storage building, and scenic overlook are partially earth-sheltered and terraced into the rolling terrain providing a comfortable prairie image. In addition, a 1.3 ha (3.3 acre) wetland was created on-site as a visual element providing an opportunity to view wildlife and providing a buffer between the rest area activities and surrounding agricultural fields.
