The HIT Finance and Business Operations (FBO) unit provides financial management, administrative, and marketing coordination services to units across HIT. The FBO unit consists of the Finance & Acquisitions Team and the Administrative Support Team, which together handle tasks in the areas of financial management, acquisitions, human resources, administrative support, information technology, property management, and GOE operations. The HIT marketing function–which will centralize marketing and outreach for all HIT units–will be established soon.

FBO Maximizes HIT’s Business Operations Success

In mid-2022, HIT consolidated its mission support services into a new Finance and Business Operations (FBO) unit to provide consistent business operations functions across the entire office. Modeled after FHWA’s proven success with shared mission support, the new FBO unit is a positive realignment designed to provide enhanced customer service for all HIT staff. FBO also began providing shared services to the Office of the Directors of Field Services (DFS). Combining business functions under one organizational structure will also result in greater connectivity, resources, and career development opportunities for the business operations staff.

Two new teams were rolled out this year–Finance and Acquisition, and Administrative Support. All HIT organizations are already reaping the benefit of the combined structure. Plans are to establish and staff a new Marketing and Outreach team in 2023.
