Sustainable Pavements Program Checklist

The Sustainable Pavements Program (SPP) Checklist, was developed as a tool under the FHWA Sustainable Pavements Program to access the benefits of the use of sustainable practices (listed in the Towards Sustainable Pavement Systems: A Reference Document) The SPP Checklist consists of a list of sustainable practices that may be applicable to pavement projects. Based on the practices used, a list of potential benefits will appear in the message section related to using such sustainable practices and/or recommendations. The messages will list the potential Environmental, Social, and/or Economic benefits and provided recommendations of other best practices. The Checklist also provides a list of references.

Note: The messages included in this checklist are best practices as per the Towards Sustainable Pavement Systems: A Reference Document and in no way encourage the use of one technology over another. The use of sustainable practices are context specific and must follow engineering standards to ensure all potential benefits that may reduce Social, Environmental, and Economic impacts. This checklist does not constitute a standard, specification, or regulation. The U.S. Government does not endorse products or manufacturers. Trademarks or manufacturers' names appear only where they are considered essential to the checklist's objective. For more information regarding technical best practices for using these sustainable technologies please refer to the Reference Tab.
