Overview

FHWA, in partnership with the Project for Public Spaces and Sevatec, is pleased to present a free webinar entitled “Fostering Livability on Commercial Highways and Arterial Streets.” The webinar explores strategies to improve the walkability, livability, and functionality of automobile-oriented commercial corridors. Such roadways are often challenged with conflicts between pedestrians and motorists, congestion, and traffic safety issues.

Speakers discussed local projects – including South Boulevard in Charlotte, NC and Bridgeport Way in University Place, WA – that are transitioning from automobile-dominated commercial roadways into multi-modal corridors. The speakers highlighted successful strategies including changes in infrastructure redesign, transit access, street design standards, and land use policy.
