Overview

This webinar from the Federal Highway Administration, in partnership with Project for Public Spaces and Sevatec, highlights strategies to improve livability and connectivity in rural communities and small towns through collaborative efforts to create economic development opportunities, and promote multimodal accessibility.

Following an overview of the recent FHWA publication, “Small Town and Rural Multimodal Networks,” speakers discuss strategies to implement livability principles and active transportation planning in rural and small town contexts. The presentations describe: the New Mobility West initiative and rural livability case studies in Hailey, ID and Anaconda, MT; the PennDOT Connects initiative – a creative collaborative process to integrate transportation and land use decisions while expanding mobility options in rural communities; and the West Edge initiative – a multi-year effort in Cheyenne, WY – to develop several new infrastructure and quality-of-life projects on the western portion of the downtown area.
