Beginning in 2016, FHWA facilitated a series of workshops and peer exchanges for transportation stakeholders on key issues surrounding megaregions such as economic vitality, environment/air quality, freight, infrastructure/congestion and safety. Each event focused on issues specific to that megaregion, and included efforts to create dialogue regarding common transportation topics of mutual concern across jurisdictional boundaries. This report highlights key outcomes identified at the I-10 Corridor Coalition Peer Exchange held on June 2, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona. The four western State DOTs (California, New Mexico, Texas and Arizona) established the first-ever I-10 Corridor Coalition for joint planning operational efficiencies along the corridor. This document summarizes the December 6, 2016, Mid-Atlantic Megaregion Workshop titled "Are We Ready for the Rise of the Megaregion?" This report summarizes the presentations, key themes, and recommendations identified as a part of the Regional Models of Cooperation initiative. The peer exchange was held on January 31 and February 1, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) hosted State Department of Transportation (State DOT), and Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), and Regional Planning Agency (RPA) peers from the Piedmont Atlantic Megaregion (PAM), which included five states: Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina. The purpose of the peer exchange was to share best practices in working across multiple jurisdictions to improve freight movement and transportation planning at a megaregion scale. Regional Models of Cooperation is a program of the FHWA Every Day Counts (EDC) 3 initiative.
