Graybeal Named Rising Star

Benjamin A. Graybeal, Ph.D., P.E.

The Federal Highway Administration's Benjamin Graybeal was recognized by Structural Engineer magazine for his research and technical capability in high-performance concrete bridge engineering and bridge standards.

Benjamin A. Graybeal, Ph.D., P.E., who heads the Federal Highway Administration Structural Concrete Research Program, was recently named a Rising Star by Structural Engineer magazine. The publication’s Rising Stars in Structural Engineering program recognizes structural engineers 40 years old or younger working in the United States who have shown exceptional technical capability, leadership ability, effective teaching or research, and/or public service benefiting the structural engineering profession, their employers, project owners, and/or society.

“He is to be commended on his national and international leadership on research and standards development in the field of high performance concrete and ultra-high performance concrete bridge engineering,” said Ian M. Friedland, Assistant Director of the Office of Infrastructure R&D.

As one of only 15 Rising Stars selected this year, Graybeal will receive a certificate and acknowledgement in an article in the March issue of Structural Engineer. Last year, the Expanded Shale, Clay, and Slate Institute awarded Graybeal the Frank G. Erskine Award for his leadership and dedication in advancing comprehensive research on the structural performance of lightweight concrete.
