Example Risk-Based Assessment for Single Span Bridges with Unknown Foundations

Example Risk-Based Assessment for Single Span Bridges with Unknown Foundations see description below

  • Box 1: Bridge is Single Span over Waterway
  • Go to Decision Box 2: Is the abutment spill-thru?
  • If Decision Box 2 yes, go to Box 3: For embankments - determine depth of flow, velocity, and contraction and general scour for design event.
  • Go to Box 4 Determine if existing foundation protection is adequate for design event
  • Go to Decision Box 5: Is foundation protected?
  • If Decision Box 5 is no, go to Box 6: Develop and implement a Plan of Action for the U coded bridge
  • If Decision Box 5 is yes, go toBox 7: Evaluate countermeasure performance and recode Item 113 for the bridge
  • If Decision Box 2 no, go to Box 8: For Vertical Wall Abutment - Determine depth of flow, velocity, and contraction and general scour for design event
  • Go to Box 9: Determine if exiting abutment protection is adequate for design event
  • Go to Decision Box 10; Is abutment protected?
  • If Decision Box 10 no, go to Box 11: Develop and implement a Plan of Action for the U coded bridge
  • If Decision Box 10 yes: , go to Box 12: Evaluate countermeasure performance and recode Item 113 for the bridge
