Competitive Highway Bridge Program 2019 Grant Awards - Fact Sheets

Arizona
US 191 Bridge Bundling Project

CHBP FY 2018 Grant Award: $10,365,000

Recipient: Arizona Department of Transportation

Project Description

The project replaces two bridges, the US 191 bridges over Lukachukai Creek and Agua Sal Wash South, and rehabilitates two bridges, the US 191 bridges over Chinle Wash and Agua Sal Wash North, in Apache County within the Navajo Nation. These bridges provide a major north-south link within the Navajo Nation and links to I-40. The closure of these bridges would force vehicle and truck traffic to detour on local routes.

Project Benefits

The project improves two bridges from poor condition to good and two bridges from fair condition to good. By moving forward with this project, the only north-south route in the region for the sparsely populated communities of Round Rock and Rock Point will be improved, maintaining the reliability of a major transportation route though the Navajo Nation.
