Maine
I-295 Bridges Project

CHBP FY 2018 Grant Award: $18,938,000

Recipient: Maine Department of Transportation

Project Description

The project replaces four bridges on the I-295 corridor in Cumberland County that are in poor condition, three of which were built in the late 1950s. The bridges represent vital connections to the region’s employment, emergency services, healthcare, tourism and recreation.

Project Benefits

The project improves the four bridges from poor condition to good and supports an important economic corridor in Maine that connects to markets and ports in New England. The project maintains access to basic life services for residents and improves travel to support the state’s tourism economy. The four new bridges will have a design lifespan of one hundred years, reducing maintenance costs.
