1923 B. M. Joyce of Western Highways Builder dispatches a report on his interview with Chief Thomas MacDonald about his western tour. MacDonald is quoted as saying, "To provide roads within the national parks and within the forests is a duty the Federal government must hasten, because the ever-increasing improved roads of the State of California and of adjoining States are going to make it possible for more and more people to get there."
