John A. Roebling Bridge Restoration

Covington, Kentucky

Designer:Parsons, Brinckerhoff, Quade & Douglas, Inc.
Contractor:Various

Maintaining the original artistic integrity of the John A. Roebling Bridge, which was erected in 1867, was a priority in the recent effort to renovate it. Roebling's original drawings guided the restoration team's effort to replace the structure's deteriorating spires and turrets. Since the sandstone used to build the bridge 130 years ago is no longer quarried, the masonry used in the repairs come from a nearby group of abandoned bridge piers that had been constructed from a similar material.
