State Route 527 Widening

Snohomish County, Washington

Designer:Washington State Department of Transportation
Contractor:Guy F. Atkinson Construction Company

The widening of Route 527 from two to five lanes was an opportunity to provide safety improvements and environmental enhancements. Pedestrian sidewalks, bicycle lanes, bus pullouts, storm water detention, wetland mitigation, and stream relocation were incorporated into this project. Three wetland mitigation sites were constructed in the same drainage basin as the affected wetlands. In addition, five salmonid streams were partially relocated, satisfying hydraulic and biological requirements.
