The design of this $34 million bridge evolved through an innovative international bridge competition co-sponsored by the Maryland State Highway Administration and the Governor's Office of Art and Culture. The winning entry combined engineering excellence with aesthetics and was selected by a diverse jury representing the numerous aspects and concerns of this important site. The structure was officially named the U.S. Naval Academy Bridge in commemoration of the Academy's 150th anniversary.
