NHI: Highway Traffic and Construction Noise Courses
This training is an updated version of, and replaces, the previous Instructor-led course. These 9 web-based training courses are available at no charge to participants and provide a comprehensive overview of the FHWA Noise Program.
Topics include: Acoustics, Construction Noise, Abatement Design Considerations, Analysis Documentation, Conducting Field Measurements, Public Involvement Requirements, Noise Compatible Land Use Planning, discussion of the FHWAs Noise Regulation (23 CFR 772), and an overview of the FHWA's Traffic Noise Model (TNM) version 3. The courses are available on the NHI website with codes ranging from 142086 to 142094.
TNM Video Series
This short-format video series demonstrates how to perform specific tasks in TNM from version 3.0 onwards – from installation to object input. Stay tuned because more videos will be added to this YouTube playlist over time
Noise Tools Video Series
These short-format videos demonstrate how to install and get started with using the various noise tools, including the Traffic Noise Screening Tool and the Automated Consistency Test Suite. More videos will be added over time.
TNM 3.2 Release Webinar (February 2024)
This webinar was held for the release of TNM version 3.2 which incorporated the Roadway Construction Noise Model (RCNM) into the main TNM software User Interface. The FHWA released TNM 3.2 in January 2024. The webinar focuses on the addition of RCNM, point acoustics, and construction equipment; and includes a live demonstration of the software. This webinar was held for the release of TNM version 3.1. The FHWA released TNM 3.1 in January 2022. TNM 3.1 XML File Format and Applications Webinar (March 2022)
This webinar focuses on the capabilities of the .txf file format introduced with TNM 3.1. The .txf is an xml file that provides flexibility for users to input, review, and output data to and from TNM. The recording includes an introduction section with slides followed by a live demonstration of various use cases.
TNM 3.0 Release Webinar (April 2020)
