CSS Design Tactics
27. Shoulders
In CSS projects, designers are tailoring the width and materials of shoulder to better fit in with the adjacent context.
Shoulders provide benefits to multiple users:
- Shoulders buffer adjacent properties and users from roadway noise and pollution;
- Shoulders provide space for maintenance activities such as snow storage; and
- Shoulders accommodate non-motorized uses such was walking and bicycling in locations where providing dedicated facilities is not feasible.
