  • Incentive of $10,000.00 per day for each day less than 31 days to open the bridge to traffic (maximum $100,000.00)
  • Seven calendar day definition of working day regardless of weather conditions, materials or supplies
  • Maximize use of precast components with generous tolerance for construction error (precision takes time)
  • Delay start time to allow for fabrication of precast components
  • Ability of contractor to mobilize manpower and equipment
  • Relief from time related contract provisions to the maximum extent possible
    • Using alternative curing methods (membrane cure)
    • Eliminating concrete surface treatment (takes time to dry the deck)
    • Determining lowest concrete strength required for sequential loading (2000 psi for beam placement on bent caps)
    • Use temporary pavement markings (permanent markings require a dry deck for installation)
  • Close coordination and planning between the area office and contractor and between the area office and district and division support
  • High performance concrete (both strength and durability definition)
