Executive Summary Report

PDF Version (0.3 mb)

As part of our technology sharing program, we are distributing this Executive Summary of the technical information presented at the subject workshop held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma May 16-19, 2005. This year we had participants from 8 State DOTs, the FHWA Resource Center, various contractors, consultants and suppliers, and invited speakers from private industry. The agenda included a workshop on "Rockfall Catchment Area Design Guide Implementation" conducted by Mr. Larry Pierson of Landslide Technology and developed through the efforts of FHWA Federal Lands Office. A half-day Geophysics Workshop was conducted by Mr. Phil Sirles of Zonge GeoSciences. This workshop was developed through the FHWA Federal Lands Office and the FHWA Resource Center. A variety of technical and case study presentations were made on subjects such as slope stability, foundations, geophysics, retaining walls, and other geotechniques. The workshop included a 1-day field trip to the CMI-Terex Corporation facility in Oklahoma City. Terex manufactures, among other types of road construction equipment, Reclaimer/Stabilizers. Following a tour of the manufacturing facilities Terex personnel conducted a field demonstration of three CMI-Terex Reclainer/Stablizers. The agenda for this meeting is attached.

This years Southwest Geotechnical Engineers Conference has again proven to be our most successful geotechnical technology transfer activity. The State and FHWA personnel from the 10 Southwest and Mid-Southwest States who participate in this workshop consider this to be the best and most productive technical session they attend during the course of the year.

Next year the Southwest Geotechnical Engineers Conference will be hosted by the FHWA Resource Center and the New Mexico Department of Transportation on May 15 to 18, 2006 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
