2006 Southwest Geotechnical Engineers ConferenceExecutive Summary ReportAs part of our technology sharing program, we are distributing this Executive Summary of the technical information presented at the subject workshop held in Albuquerque, New Mexico May 15-18, 2006. This year we had participants from nine State DOTs, the FHWA Resource Center, various contractors, consultants and suppliers, and invited speakers from private industry and academia. The agenda included a variety of technical and case study presentations were made on subjects such as slope stability, foundations, geophysics, retaining walls, and other geotechniques. The conference included a ½ -day field trip through the I-40/I-25 interchange which was a design/build project constructed a few years ago in only 22 months. The field trip also included a stop at the nearly completed I-40/Coors interchange and then continued to the top of the Tram on Sandia Peak for a birds-eye view of the Rio Grande Rift which dominated the geology of the region. Earlier in the day, presentations were made that provided an overview of the geotechnical challenges on the I-40/Coors interchange, and the geology history and significance of the Rio Grande Rift. The agenda for this meeting is attached. This year the Southwest Geotechnical Engineers Conference has again proven to be our most successful geotechnical technology transfer activity. The State and FHWA personnel from the nine Southwest and Mid-Southwest States who participate in this workshop consider this to be the best and most productive technical session they attend during the course of the year. Next year the Southwest Geotechnical Engineers Conference will be hosted by the FHWA Resource Center and the Kansas Department of Transportation on April 23 to 26, 2007 in Kansas City, Kansas.
