FHWA Office of Technical Services

Introduction

FHWA’s Office of Technical Services (OTS) provides technical assistance, training, and technology deployment to transportation agencies nationwide. Its three units – the National Highway Institute (NHI), the Resource Center (RC) and the Knowledge Management (KM) unit – collaborate with all FHWA organizations to serve the agency’s internal and external customers. In 2020 we forged a close partnership with the Office of Innovative Program Delivery (OIPD) and its centers. This enhanced collaboration allowed us to broaden our success by supporting even more FHWA customers. On this site, you’ll learn about projects that support agency and department priorities, meet the needs of our transportation partners, and build the expertise of FHWA’s internal workforce. Throughout all those stories, you’ll see how the people of OTS and OIPD worked tirelessly to meet customer challenges, create innovative service delivery techniques and support their customers and communities during an extraordinary year.

The year culminated with our joint collaboration on the Every Day Counts Round Six (EDC-6) Summit in December. OIPD’s Center for Accelerating Innovation (CAI) leads the EDC program, now in its 10th year. On this site, you will read about the Summit highlights, and how the KM unit and the RC also work to support this important program at FHWA.
