Aberdeen--Bel Air South--Bel Air North, MD Urbanized Area Congestion Report

In the line graphs below, FHWA uses Data Collection Year instead of Data Reporting Year to represent snapshot condition/performance at the time the data was collected. More information

The Aberdeen--Bel Air South--Bel Air North, MD Urbanized Area covers parts of Maryland. Targets are agreed upon by several transportation agencies and apply to the entire area.

  • Annual Hours of Peak-Hour Excessive Delay (PHED) Per Capita

    • Trend through 2025

      Desired trend: ↓

Aberdeen--Bel Air South--Bel Air North, MD Annual Hours of Excessive Delay Per Capita

  • Annual Hours of Peak-Hour Excessive Delay (PHED) Per Capita 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025
    Condition/Performance 6.9 -- -- -- --
    Targets -- -- 6.9 -- 6.9

  • Annual Hours of Peak-Hour Excessive Delay (PHED) Per Capita

(Maryland) Both the 2- and 4-year targets were established to maintain 2021 congestion levels at 6.9 hours of delay per capita. A trend projection, even a projection that excluded 2020, showed delay decreasing dramatically over the next four years, which did not seem reasonable to the DOT and MPO. Since Aberdeen is a new urbanized area, a conservative aspiration to maintain levels seemed most reasonable.

  • Non-Single Occupancy Vehicle (Non-SOV) Travel

    • Trend through 2025

      Aberdeen--Bel Air South--Bel Air North, MD % Non-SOV Travel

  • Non-Single Occupancy Vehicle (Non-SOV) Travel 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025
    Condition/Performance 17.8 -- -- -- --
    Targets -- -- 16.8 -- 16.8

  • Non-Single Occupancy Vehicle (Non-SOV) Travel

(Maryland) For Percent non-SOV travel, the targets were developed by using the existing non-SOV, calculated utilizing ACS 5-year data, and forecasting trend lines for the second performance period. For the Aberdeen Urbanized Area, trends have remained relatively flat over a long period of time. Because of this and the fact that it is a new area for this performance analysis, the agencies decided to set the target to maintain current non-SOV travel levels.
