Strength Characterization of Open-Graded Aggregates for Structural Backfills

APPENDIX A. RAW DATA

NO. 5

This photo shows the American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials M43 gradation-based designated No. 5 aggregates with a diabase rock source supplied from a quarry in Ashburn, VA. The maximum values of dmax and d50, in inches are 1.5 and 0.847, respectively. They are classified as a poorly graded gravel based on the Unified Soil Classification System. The minimum and maximum unit weights, in pounds per cubic ft, are 94.9 and 109.6, respectively.
