Description

The Midtown Alliance & The City of Atlanta partnership plans to create safe intersection crossings for people walking, biking, taking transit, driving, and using shareable mobility devices. The project installs three new traffic signals on 13th Street at the West Peachtree Street, Peachtree Street, and Juniper Street intersections. As part of the project, the new signals will include:

  • New signal equipment
  • Mast arms and poles
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant ramps and crosswalks
  • Signage and lane markings for current and future bicycle facilities

The City approved traffic signal warrant studies in 2019, and plans to begin construction on the project in 2021.

Duration / Status

The new traffic signal scoping portion of the project is complete. The design and engineering phase will include city and stakeholder coordination, survey and subsurface evaluations for signal locations, and cost estimating. This phase will also contain the development of preliminary design plans, final design plans, and construction permitting documents. The design and engineering phase will continue through 2020 and upon completion, construction is estimated to begin in early 2021.

Financial Status/Financial Performance To date, the project secured $750,000 with $150,000 coming from Midtown Improvement District funds and $600,000 in City of Atlanta Transportation Impact Fees.
