In May 2019, the city council enacted legislation authorizing both a Non-Resident and Resident Employee Street Maintenance and Police Protection Charge.

The ordinance is designed to augment funding for the continuation of the essential municipal service of street sweeping in an environmentally sound and proper manner, and the essential municipal service of street maintenance and improvement, namely the proper curbing, draining, maintenance, repair, paving and re-paving, and the continued ability of the City of Fairmont to provide police protection at a satisfactory level.

This ordinance re-allocates dollars from the general fund in order to fund the Street Maintenance and Improvement and Police Protection.

Council authorized legislation on May 14, 2019 for both a Non-Resident and Resident Employee Street Maintenance and Police Protection Charge.

The indefinite charges to resident and non-resident employees will augment dollars from the existing fund that comes from the 2019-2020 (FY20) budget, totaling just over $17.6 million.
