Database standardization for 3-D Utility Data

3D Utility Location Data Repository (R01A)

A model database that standardizes the collection, storage, rendering, updating, and viewing of 3-D utility data. This solution for maintaining up-to-date records of utility locations will improve coordination, reduce risk of project redesign or delays, and reduce excavation damage. Over time, it could produce a comprehensive record of all utilities in a right-of-way, reducing or eliminating the need for new utility mapping at project initiation.

This project is currently transitioning from research to implementation via the Round 4 Implementation Assistance Program. A full product webpage will be available early in 2014.

Additional information about this research project is available on the Transportation Research Board’s website.
