Implementation Assistance Program – The Washington State Department of Transportation will test L02, L05, and L07 on I-405 in Renton and on I-90 in the Cascade mountains. The products will be used to enhance the development of the DriveNet data collection system; test highway improvement options; and heighten the consideration of operations in project identification, selection, and prioritization. Statewide truck travel is a component of the testing. The University of Washington will support the technical work.

Implementation Assistance Program – The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is analyzing episodic speeding (e.g., 10 mph or more over the posted speed) in and around Seattle. Examining speed behaviors will help WSDOT to determine whether specific aspects such as infrastructure, bicycle and pedestrian access, roadside parking, number of lanes, visual cues to motion, and shoulder width result in excessive speeding.

Implementation Assistance Program – The Washington State Department of Transportation is evaluating how roadway lighting characteristics affect safety performance and driver behavior for different types of roadways, and the type of lighting needed to improve safety performance and driver comfort in various roadway settings. The DOT will also investigate cost-sensitive lighting design standards and policies that can improve safety and lower energy consumption.

mplementation Assistance Program – The Washington State Department (WSDOT) of Transportation will receive assistance through a demonstration workshop on the Multimodal Terminal at Colman Dock Project, Pier 52 in Seattle. Based on information gained from the workshop, WSDOT will review and update their guidance documentation and policies on complex project delivery. WSDOT is also interested in developing a project delivery selection process using the tools from R10.

Implementation Assistance Program – The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) is quantifying how activities upstream from the paver’s screed affect the thermal segregation of the mat. WVDOT will define success as production of pavements that have better performance than what is currently being experienced, along with the adoption of this technology by contractors.

Implementation Assistance Program – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will receive assistance through a demonstration workshop for the I-94 East-West Corridor project. The workshop will provide the project team, including regional and central office bureau experts with a better overall understanding of the process and how it can be applied to a WisDOT project. WisDOT is interested in a train-the-facilitator session to train their staff on strategies and techniques of R10 and help develop the skills necessary for facilitating the R10 workshops on various projects. WisDOT also plans to update portions of their design manual to incorporate the R10 process.

Implementation Assistance Program – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is implementing risk management strategies through a demonstration workshop for the I-43 N-S project. The workshop will provide the project team, including regional and central office bureau experts with a better overall understanding of the R09 process and how it can be applied to a WisDOT project, as well as provide project specific R09 outcomes enabling staff to understand the real risks and the implications to a WisDOT I-43 N-S Corridor project. Risk Management procedures and guidance will be updated as part of the implementation.
Wyoming
Proof of Concept
Implementation Assistance Program – The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is researching how drivers respond to adverse weather and road conditions (e.g., speed adaptation, lane maintenance, vehicle headways). WYDOT will gain insight into what cues are the most effective in providing drivers with a more realistic variable speed limit system and how drivers adjust their behaviors to compensate for increased risk due to reductions in visibility.
