2/ Federal-Aid Systems include segments open-to-traffic.

3/ Includes the States and the District of Columbia.

4/ The Federal-Aid Primary System existed until 1991. 1992 and 1993 reflect the Interim National Highway System (NHS); 1994 reflects the Proposed NHS; and 1995 reflects the approved NHS.

5/ Includes the Secondary and Urban Systems prior to 1992. Starting in 1992, includes all functional systems, except those functionally classified as local and minor collector, or National Highway System.
